If you're considering an epoxy garage floor for your home, you probably have a few questions before getting started. At United Floor Coatings, we believe an informed customer is a confident customer. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive about our floor coating systems.

How Much Does an Epoxy Garage Floor Cost?

The cost of an epoxy garage floor depends on several factors, including the size of the space, the condition of the concrete, and the coating system you choose.

For most residential garages, pricing typically ranges from $6.00–$7.00 per square foot. Decorative flake blends, custom finishes, extensive crack repairs, or specialty systems may affect the final investment.

The best way to receive an accurate quote is to schedule a free on-site estimate so we can evaluate your concrete and discuss your goals.

Isn't Epoxy Just Paint?

Not at all. While epoxy and paint may appear similar during installation, they perform very differently.

Paint is a single-component product that simply dries on the surface. Epoxy is a two-component system that chemically cures and bonds directly to properly prepared concrete. This creates a much stronger, longer-lasting finish that resists peeling, hot tire pickup, stains, chemicals, and everyday wear.

When installed correctly, an epoxy floor coating can last for decades—and in residential interior applications, our systems are backed by a lifetime warranty.

How Long Does Installation Take?

Most residential garage floor installations are completed in two days.

On the first day, we:

  • Prepare the concrete using professional diamond grinding.
  • Repair cracks and surface imperfections as needed.
  • Apply the epoxy basecoat.
  • Broadcast the decorative flake.

On the second day, we apply protective clear topcoats that provide exceptional durability and UV resistance. If a slip-resistant finish is requested, it is incorporated during this step.

While some projects can be completed in a single day during warmer weather, two-day installations remain the best practice for optimal results.

Why Do You Grind Every Concrete Floor?

Concrete preparation is the most important part of a successful floor coating installation.

Diamond grinding removes surface contaminants while creating the ideal concrete profile for the coating to chemically bond with. Even brand-new concrete needs to be mechanically prepared to ensure maximum adhesion and long-term performance.

Skipping this step significantly increases the risk of coating failure, which is why we professionally grind every floor we install.

How Long Will My Garage Floor Last?

One of the biggest advantages of a professionally installed epoxy floor is its longevity.

For residential interior spaces such as garages and basements, our floor coating systems are designed to last a lifetime with proper care. That's why United Floor Coatings proudly offers a lifetime warranty on qualifying residential interior installations.

Commercial, industrial, and exterior applications experience greater wear and exposure to the elements, so warranty coverage differs, though these systems are still built for years of dependable performance.

Will an Epoxy Coating Prevent Concrete Cracks?

Epoxy floor coatings are designed to protect and enhance your concrete—not reinforce it structurally.

While decorative flake coatings can help conceal small hairline cracks, they cannot prevent new cracks from forming as concrete naturally expands, contracts, or settles over time. Larger cracks should always be professionally repaired before a coating is installed to ensure the best possible finished appearance.

Ready to Upgrade Your Garage Floor?

Choosing a professional epoxy floor coating is an investment in both the appearance and durability of your garage. With proper concrete preparation, premium materials, and expert installation, your floor can provide decades of reliable performance while dramatically improving the look of your space.
