Our Floor Coatings vs. the Competition
Don't be fooled by the DIY products you see on the shelf at your neighborhood home improvement store. Many of these are "epoxy fortified," or in other words, not industrial strength, making them highly susceptible to flaking and peeling.
At United Floor Coatings, we use industrial strength coatings we use a proven process that ensures your floors are prepped exactly as their condition demands. Our team understands the unique needs of each floor, and is deeply experienced in ensuring the first - and critical step - of prep is not overlooked.
When it comes to floor coatings, cutting corners can cause major headaches - not to mention extra costs. Get it right the first time by choosing United Floor Coatings, your floor coating experts.
At United Floor Coatings, we want your floors and concrete surfaces to be an investment that looks great...and lasts!
In the chart below, we compare our most popular system, our ProMax Polyaspartic system with other comparable systems on the market.
Product | Solids Content | Elongation | Abrasion Resistance | VOC Content |
---|---|---|---|---|
UFC ProMax Polyaspartic | 85% | 300% | 7mg loss | 99g/l |
Penntek NX300 Polyaspartic | Unpublished | 5% | 65mg loss | 66g/l |
Labfast Polyaspartic | 85% | 51% | 30mg loss | 169g/l |
Floorguard Polyaspartic | 85% | 2.4% | 20mg loss | 160g/l |
Duravel PS-90 Polyaspartic | 90% | Unpublished | 36mg loss | 50g/l |
In the chart above, we compare ourselves to the most commonly installed topcoats in the local market today. Looking at this chart, you may be thinking "I don't know what any of this means", so we will concisely break it down below:
- Solids Content - This is the percentage of your coating that will remain after the coating has fully cured. Polyaspartic topcoats are generally 70-90% solids content, meaning 10-30% of the total thickness of the topcoat will disappear within the first week of installation as the carrier solvents evaporate from the coating mixture.
- Elongation -Elongation is how much your coating can flex, or expand and contract, without cracking. This is important for coatings in non-conditioned spaces like garages, porches, and patios, as they can see significant temperature swings daily--causing the coating to experience significant stress as it heats and cools.
- Abrasion Resistance - Abrasion resistance tests are simple tests that use an abrasive that is run over a coating's surface 1000 times. The score given represents how much weight is lost from the sample area after the test is completed. The smaller the number, the more scratch resistant the product is.
- VOC Content - VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, are chemicals that can vaporize into air and cause negative health effects. For the purposes of floor coatings, these are short-lived as they disappear once the floor is fully cured, but in the short term they can cause headaches or light-headedness, especially for those that are very sensitive to odors. The lower the VOC content, the less odor associated with the product, in most cases, although there are some low-VOC coatings that still have strong odors if they are acetone based systems.
The two most important scores for the longevity of your floor is abrasion resistance and elongation. The less prone your floor is to abrasion wear, the longer it will take to wear through and the longer it will retain its high-gloss, like-new appearance. Increased elongation will help your coating tolerate years of movement without cracking or peeling.
The chemistry of our products offer unparalleled abrasion resistance, and with our proprietary nanotechnology, we offer a greater degree of resistance against polymer transfer from today's high-performance tires--leaving your coatings looking like-new for longer than anyone else on the market.
